At Cwmfelinfach Primary School all staff strive to provide a broad and balanced curriculum for all pupils. When planning, teachers set suitable learning challenges and respond to pupils' diverse learning needs. Some pupils have barriers to learning that mean they have needs that are additional to and different from their peers and require particular action by the school.

We are implementing the Additional Learning Needs reforms in line with county guidance. You will be informed of changes and how they affect your child by your child's class teacher and by our Additional Learning Needs Co-ordinator, Mrs Gow. Mrs Gow is happy to answer any queries you may have.

Stretching every talent

We recognise that we have more able and talented pupils. All pupils are encouraged to develop their attributes, skills and potential within a learning environment that embraces equality of opportunity, so abilities and talents emerge in a wide range of subjects and fields. Pupils use their skills and talents in many roles throughout the school, such as Digital Leader, Young Leader and Maths Buddy.

Pupils are recognised as more able and talented through teacher assessment and pupil performance, correlated with the criteria in our More Able and Talented Policy. You will be told by your child's class teacher during parent-teacher consultations if your child is considered more able and talented.

Parents are invited to share their views on their child's skills through the questionnaires completed each September after the Meet the Teacher event. Please tell your child's class teacher about any certificates or awards they receive outside school, so we can celebrate them in our weekly Achievement Book and Celebration Assembly.
